RANGE OF EXPERIENCE

Sandy Dawson has well over 30 years' experience of all aspects of common law, including crime, civil litigation and family matters.  Since 1982, he has specialised in personal injury litigation, and clinical and other professional negligence for both claimants and defendants.

CARRER PATH

He graduated from New College, Oxford in 1967 and was called to the Bar in 1969.

He joined the Chambers of Gwyn Morris QC as a pupil in 1969, becoming a tenant in 1970.

In 1971 he was a founder member of the set of chambers set up at 13 King’s Bench Walk under Frank Whitworth QC, where he has been in practice ever since.

He was appointed Assistant Recorder in 1985 and Recorder in 1989.


PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE EXPERIENCE

His professional practice includes:

  • Comprehensive experience in personal injury litigation for both Claimants and Defendants.  This has covered all manner of personal injury and fatal accident claims, including motor accidents, industrial injuries and diseases and medical accidents.  He now specialises in serious injuries, such as severe brain damage and other neurological injuries, multiple injury cases, diseases and injuries arising from industrial processes, and fatal accident claims.
  • Wide involvement in Clinical Negligence litigation, including appearances in a number of reported high value cases, such as cerebral palsy, failed sterilisations (pre-MacFarlane) and other gynaecological problems, as well as lower value dental negligence and negligent failures in general practice and plastic surgery.
  • Extensive experience in all other forms of professional negligence, including solicitors, surveyors, valuers, engineers etc.
  • Varied early experience of criminal defence work.
     
  • Past experience in Construction and Technology work and also in Chancery litigation, including intellectual property.
     
  • Extensive past experience in Family work.
     
  • As a recorder, he hears cases in Crime, Civil and Private Family Law.
     
  • A very experienced and positive advocate with an excellent reputation as a skilled negotiator, including the management of negotiated settlements based on periodical payments.  He accepts instructions at all levels of the multi-track.
