Property including nuisance and environmental damage, licences and easements, adverse possession, secured lending and conveyancing disputes.

Employment including construction of employment contracts, restraint of trade, breach of confidence, wrongful dismissal, unfair dismissal and discrimination.

Intellectual Property including trade mark, copyright and design rights.

Is able to offer a professional service in all these areas, either in an advisory role or as an advocate.

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE EXPERIENCE

Varied professional practice has covered: 

  • defending a claim for £15 million brought under a venture capital agreement;
  • representing a group of US residents who invested £1 million in a fraudulent scheme organised by English accountants alleging constructive trust;
  • defending proceedings in the Patents Court brought by a major PLC claiming ownership of a patent and misuse of confidential information by a former employee;
  • defending a solicitors’ practice against allegations of sex discrimination;
  • representing a government department against a claim that it was responsible for a major pollution incident;    
  • whether casual stevedores were employed for the purposes of the Employment Rights Act (Stevedoring & Haulage Services Ltd v. Fuller and others 2001 IRLR 627 CA);
  • whether a right of pre-emption is property within the meaning of the Insolvency Act (Dear v. Reeves [2001] 3 WLR 662 CA).
