RANGE OF EXPERIENCE
Edward has a wide ranging commercial chancery practice. His practice has a particular emphasis on property, construction and professional negligence but also covers commercial and insolvency work.
Examples of recent case work include:
Property Law
- conveyancing issues (both during and after the event) including fraudulent misrepresentation, breach of solicitor's undertakings, warranty of authority and identity fraud and rectification of title on grounds of mistake;
- cohabitation claims including setting aside an express declaration of trust on grounds of undue influence, equitable accounting and breach of trust;
- easements, including a claim by a developer for a negative declaration under the jurisdiction in Greenwich NHS Trust v Quadrant;
- adverse possession in both legal proceedings and before the adjudicator; and
- boundary disputes
Landlord & Tenant
- forfeiture and guarantees, including the position as regards a guarantor post assignment;
- breach of covenant;
- leasehold enfranchisement; and
- unlawful eviction
Contract/Construction
- a claim for damages for breach of tax warranties given pre sale of share capital;
- termination / repudiation;
- the enforcement of settlement agreements;
- construction disputes including delay, defective work and issues over measurement and payment.
Professional Negligence
- solicitors negligence, particularly involving property and Etridge duties;
- negligence within the financial services sector, including an alleged failure to put in place forward cover in respect of currency transactions and defective investment advice;
- architects/engineers negligence

CAREER PATH
After graduating in 1994, Edward worked in the financial sector where he advised clients on tax planning and financial management. In 1999, he became a partner at The Rayburn Group, specialising in portfolio management, trusts and tax planning for private clients.
Edward was a major scholar of Middle Temple and was called to the bar in October 2004. He completed pupillage at 13 King’s Bench Walk under the supervision of Sinclair Cramsie and Neil Vickery.
PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE EXPERIENCE
Edward has a great deal of trial experience. He regularly appears before the LVT, Adjudicator to HM Land Registry and conducts litigation in both the Chancery and Queens Bench Divisions of the High Court. He has a strong commercial background, which is reflected in a very practical and client oriented approach to advice and litigation. In particular, he believes strongly that most litigation is capable of settlement and will adopt a proactive and collaborative approach to resolving disputes where appropriate.
