RANGE OF EXPERIENCE

Jane was called to the Bar in 2005 and practices mainly in criminal law and quasi-criminal matters.  Jane is a member of the criminal team based in chambers in Oxford.

CAREER PATH

Having completed her undergraduate science degree, Jane spent a gap year travelling around South-East Asia before commencing work as a management consultant with Accenture, London.  Jane spent two years working for Accenture, specialising in advising Financial Services companies before deciding to retrain as a criminal barrister.  During her law conversion course, Jane undertook a number of mini-pupillages in London and marshalled for a High Court judge sitting on circuit.  During her BVC, Jane worked as an outdoor clerk for a firm of criminal solicitors based in South London.

Jane undertook her twelve month criminal pupillage at the Oxford annexe of 13 King’s Bench Walk in October 2005 and having successfully completed pupillage, became a tenant in October 2006.  During her pupillage, Jane spent one month observing civil litigation based in London.

 

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE EXPERIENCE

Jane regularly appears for both the prosecution and defence in the Crown Court, Magistrates’ Court and Youth Court, covering a wide range of work including sexual assault cases, offences of violence and public disorder, drugs offences, driving offences and benefit fraud matters.  Jane also regularly appears for the Probation Service in the Crown Court and on behalf of HM Revenue and Customs at the Magistrates’ Court.

Jane also undertakes Parole Board Review hearings and Coroner’s Inquests.

Secondment to Asset Forfeiture Division of HM Revenue & Customs: February → June 2007, dealing primarily with Restraint Orders.

Secondment to CPS Reading, September 2007 – April 2008.  During this 7 month secondment, the majority of matters that Jane prosecuted were summary trials for a wide range of offences and prosecuting legal arguments at preliminary hearings.
