Richard is in his ninth year of practice.  He undertakes a wide range of employment law.

He is qualified to give advice direct to the public under the Bar’s Direct Public Access scheme.

CAREER PATH

Richard graduated in 1999 and was called to the Bar in 2000.  He worked first for a leading West Country firm of solicitors, practising solely in employment law.  He undertook pupillage both with that firm and with a West Country chambers.

He joined the Chambers of Roger Ellis QC, now Julian Baughan QC at 13 KBW as a tenant in July 2003.

  

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE EXPERIENCE

His professional practice includes: 

  • Employment ~ Richard has represented many employers (including The Post Office, Rank Group, Local Authorities and Universities), in all areas of employment law.
  • Richard has a huge array of experience in discrimination cases, having acted for and against large organisations and small business.
  • Richard also represents employees in Tribunal.  Richard is happy to draft policies and procedures, compromise agreements and COT3 settlements.  Richard has a particular interest in discrimination cases, having represented both employers and employees extensively in matters of sex, race and disability discrimination.
  • Richard has appeared in most Employment Tribunals, the Employment Appeal Tribunal, and the Court of Appeal.
  • Richard speaks widely on a number of employment law related subjects, talking recently about costs, high value compromise agreements, disability discrimination, and contractual claims.

INTERESTS                         

Richard is a keen yachtsman, racing his boat mainly in the Solent;  he also enjoys training his gundog, Charlie.
