RANGE OF EXPERIENCE
Tim is a member of the Crime Team and the Public Law Team. He is also able to accept instructions direct from members of the public in appropriate cases, in particular road traffic matters.

2003: BCL (Masters in Law), Hertford College, Oxford University.
2002: MA (Hons) in Jurisprudence, Hertford College, Oxford University. (College Scholar, Sweet & Maxwell prize).
CAREER PATH
Tim started pupillage in the Oxford chambers of 13 King’s Bench Walk in October 2004. His Pupil Masters were Nigel Daly and Nicholas Syfret (now QC). He became a tenant in October 2005.
PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE EXPERIENCE
- The majority of Tim’s work consists of appearing for both the Prosecution and the Defence in the Crown Court. His work covers the full range of general criminal work, including public order matters, violent offences, sexual offences, theft and fraud, drugs, and robbery. He has also appeared in Courts Martial hearings.
- Recent Crown Court briefs include: Defending in an 8 day s18 trial where the complainant lost the sight in his right eye; sole prosecution counsel in a £180,000 false accounting case involving over 3,500 pages of evidence; prosecuting an environmental protestor accused of attempting to escape from lawful custody; and appearing for the defence in a multiple count JPA fraud in Courts Martial.
- Tim has appeared in both the High Court (in case stated matters) and the Court of Appeal (in appeals against conviction and sentence. Reported cases include:
McGrath [2009] EWHC Crim 1758.
West Berkshire DC v Paine [2009] EWHC 422 Admin.
- Tim has considerable expertise in road traffic matters, having represented Prosecution and Defence in cases ranging from speeding and associated documentary offences to being instructed for the Defence in a 3 day careless driving trial where a fatality was involved.
- Tim's Public Law practice has given him considerable experience prosecuting on behalf of local authorities in both the Magistrates' Court and the Crown Court. His cases have encompassed matters as diverse as unlawful eviction, breaches of housing and planning regulations, benefit fraud and unlawful street trading. He has also appeared on behalf of the Thames Valley police in police property act and firearms matters.
- His licensing practice covers both liquor and taxi licensing. He has appeared numerous times in taxi licensing appeals for both appellants and respondent local authorities.
- Tim has also carried out work for the Probation Service, HM Revenue & Customs, the Thames Valley Police, the Vale of White Horse District Council, the Child Support Agency, the Department of Work and Pensions and Oxford City Council.
OTHER PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
- Tim is part of the team that regularly presents seminars on criminal law to local solicitors. He has recently delivered well received lectures on Youths and the Crown Court, the Road Safety Act 2006 and Confiscation Proceedings in the Crown Court.
- He has also been published in “The Circuiteer” (the magazine of the South Eastern Circuit).
- He is a member of the Thames Valley Bar Mess and the Criminal Bar Association.
