Seminars

13 KBW runs regular seminar programmes on issues of importance and interest in their practice areas. Seminars are provided for solicitor clients and others and are conducted in London and Oxford as well at other venues, on request. We pride ourselves on the range and quality of these seminars that we have given for many years. All seminars are accredited by the Law Society and the Bar Council and attract Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points.

  • The Personal Injury Team presented a seminar in house: 'Expert Immunity' by Adrian Higgins and 'OGDEN 7 - A rational approach or damn lies and statistics? - a review of recent developments and caselaw' by Deirdre Goodwin.
  • The Property Team presented a seminar in house: 'Overriding interests under the Land Registration Act 2002 Rights to Light - an update' by Edmund Walters and Edward Bennion-Pedley.
  • The Employment Team presented a seminar in house: 'The Agency Workers Regulations 2010' by Timothy Brown.

  • The Criminal Team presented a seminar at Worcester College in September 2011.  Our guest speaker was Mr David Wurtzel, Barrister and Senior Lecturer, Specialist in the Intermediary Scheme, 'Intermediaries and Vulnerable Witnesses and Defendants'.  Followed by Alistair Grainger: 'Shall I Go Private: An Introduction to The Law of Private Prosecutions'.
  • 'The Employment Team presented a seminar in house: 'The Price of Equal Opportunities: Cost as a Justification for Discrimination' by Sinclair Cramsie and 'Whistleblowing Updated' by Timothy Brown.
  • The Personal Injury Team presented a seminar inhouse: 'Legal By-Passes: Recent Developments in Illegality and Credit Hire' by Sarah Lippold and Murray Grant.
  • The Commercial Team presented a seminar inhouse: 'Banks - Where They Go Wrong: Sales At Undervalue, Guarantees, and To Whom Do They Owe Duties?' by Gabriel Buttimore and 'Administrators - Schedule B1 Powers and Obligations' by Sarah Lippold.
  • The Criminal Team presented a seminar at Worcester College in May 2011.  Our guest speaker was Dr. John Manlove, Forensic Scientist, Manlove Forensics: 'Forensic Science - It's Not All Black and White'.  Followed by Nicholas Syfret QC: 'Corporate Manslaughter: The Offence and Sentencing'.
  • The Employment Team presented a seminar in house: 'Contractual Remedies for Recovering Losses for High Earners' by Richard Owen-Thomas and 'Equal Pay - Is it Discriminatory?' by Murray Grant.
  • The Property Team presented a seminar in house: 'A Pentad of Property Problems' by Nigel Woodhouse and 'Cohabitation Claims - A Property Lawyer's Perspective' by Edward Bennion-Pedley.
  • The Personal Injury Team presented a seminar in house entitled Health, Happiness and Harassment: Employer's Liability.  Sarah Lippold spoke on An update on stress at work and PI claims under the Protection From Harassment Act 1997 and Paul Gurnham spoke on Employer's liability for personal injury and death: who is an employee?
  • The Commercial Team presented a seminar inhouse: 'Non-Reliance and Entire Agreement Clauses - An Update' by Neil Vickery and 'The Bribery Act 2010 - An Introduction' by John Clargo.
  • The Criminal Team presented a seminar at Worcester College in September 2010.  Our guest speakers were Ms Sara Thornton QPM, Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police: 'The Challenges of Policing in the 21st Century'.  Followed by HHJ Hall who gave 'Some Thoughts on Children and the Courts'.
  • The Personal Injury Team presented a seminar in house entitled Credit Hire: Recent Developments from the Court of Appeal.  The speaker was Stuart Nicol.
  • The Employment Team presented an afternoon of seminars and workshops in Cambridge, followed by a subsequent seminar in house entitled Four Grievances and a Dismissal: The Problem of the Serial Griever.  The Seminars were given by Clare Harrington, Richard Owen-Thomas and Murray Grant, while Sarah Lippold organised the workshop.
  • The Commercial Team presented a seminar inhouse on the subject of Insolvency - The Adjustment of Prior Transactions.  Gabriel Buttimore spoke on Directors' duties to creditors; and Christopher Mann spoke on Transactions at an undervalue and preferences - a potted guide and recent developments.
  • The Criminal Team presented a seminar at Worcester College in March 2010.  Our Guest speaker was Dr Michelle Cowley, A Katzenbach Research Fellow, Oxford University: 'A Bag of Tricks: The Psychology of the Jury's Mind'.  This was followed by Andrew Pote's lecture on 'Court Martial: Changes in Law, Practice amd Procedure - A Brief Overview'.
  • The Employment Team presented a seminar in-house: 'Holiday Pay: implications of the Stringer and Pedreda decisions' Susan Chan and 'Disciplinary, Dismissal & Grievance, Procedure- what procedure?' Murray Grant.
  • The Personal Injury team held a West Country Seminar at Exeter on 1st October 2009 covering 'Pitfalls of Litigatibg Acquired Brain Injury Claims' Richard Cropper of PFP, Deirdre Goodwin and Sinclair Cramsie; 'Limitation, Knowledge and Discretion' Mark Maitland-Jones and Richard Owen-Thomas; 'Limitation' Sarah Lippold; 'Credit Hire' Stuart Nicol and Murray Grant; and 'The Effect of Insolvency on a Personal Injury Claim Adrian Higgins.
  • The Criminal Team: 'Achieving Best Evidence from your Expert: a guide for practitioners seeking psychological reports' Dr Linda Meina, Consultant Forensic & Clinical Psychologist, and 'Case Management in the Magistrates Court: an overview of recent case law' Jennifer Edwards.
