£5.75 million damages award

On 13 July 2009 Mr Justice David Steel approved an award of £5.75 million for a 10 year old boy who underwent a balloon catheterisation procedure as part of treatment for a severe congenital heart condition at the Defendant Hospital.  The paediatric cardiologist failed to use an indeflator to measure balloon pressure during the procedure; the balloon burst and the claimant suffered a cardiac arrest and hypoxic brain damage resulting in cerebral palsy: ACE (by his Father and Litigation Friend MC) v Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust.  Deirdre Goodwin acted as Counsel for the Claimant.
